Seriously damaged by 1755 earthquake, stil stands tall, 240 mt above sea level it changed hands lots of times, visigods, romans, muslums, during the Battle of Navas de Tolosa (1212) Abu Yusuf Ya'qub al-Mansur was deafeted by portugueses troops, The clever Spanish troops went up river coina kiling everyone in site marching against Lisbon, big fires were lit by D. Nuno Álvares Pereira from the top of this tower to warn Lisbon, Mestre Avis prepared Portuguese troops and when they got to Lisbon a big surprise was waiting for them, this is why i love this castle, it has a lot of storys to tell, of battles and plots, during 1484 the Duque of Viseu ploted to kill D.João II, D.João II killed the Duque and one of the plotter the Bishop of Evora was arrested in this tower only to die a few days latter, i imagine he didn't die of natural causes...and this is why i like this castle.
